APOSTLE JOSEPH AYODELE BABALOLA

Babalola, Joseph Ayodele
1904 to 1959

The story of Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola, his life and work can be thus classified. His unprecedented Oke-Oye Revival gave birth to what is now known as the Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C.), a Nigerian indigenous church.

His Background

Joseph Ayodele Babalola was born on April 25, 1904 to David Rotimi and Madam Marta Talabi who belonged to the Anglican Church. The family lived at Odo-Owa in Ilofa, a small town about ninety kilometres from Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria. His father was the Baba Ijo ("church father") of the C.M.S. Church at Odo-Owa. Pastor Medayese wrote in his book Itan Igbe dide Woli Ayo Babalola that mysterious circumstances surrounded the birth of Babalola. On that day, it was believed that a strange and mighty object exploded and shook the clouds.

DO YOU KNOW THAT?

Many of the sciences derive directly from the work of a Christian or were greatly influenced at their inception by a Christian. INTRODUCTION
It may seem an outrageous claim that Christians were seminal to much of what dominates modern scientific thinking, but it is true. There is hardly a science or scientific idea which cannot trace its inception as a viable theory to some Christian. The list below verifies this claim. A few minutes with a good encyclopedia and a few biographies will corroborate this information. The names of the Christians who influenced each science or idea are starred. Often the Christian made CLAIMS, and PREDICTIONS or developed an idea which had IMPLICATIONS for the young science. To draw attention to these claims, predictions and implications, I have capitalized the terms in the text which follows.

The First Black Preacher in America

John Marrant, America's first black preacher
1755-1791

America's first black preacher, a missionary to the Cherokee, and an author, John Marrant lived a life of adventure and hardships to serve God.

Born in 1755 in a free black family in New York, John Marrant's early life suggested nothing of the adventure his future would hold. His father died when he was four. He lived in several colonies with his mother and siblings for several years until he settled with an older sister's family in Charleston, SC, in 1766.

At this time his sister sought to find a master to apprentice him to, but Marrant begged to take music lessons. Succumbing to his pleas, she enrolled him in a music school where he learned to play French horn and violin. By the time he was thirteen, Marrant was a sought-after musician for parties and dances.
